Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation

No child left behind

Overview

In the Philippines, children face difficult challenges just to be able to go to school. Some children even have to swim to school with their school bags and uniforms getting wet in the process. And some of them don't even have the option to swim as they live on remote areas or far-flung islands with no nearby school, or they are forced to work to help their families survive.

To make education more accessible to children, the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation provides boats and build bridges so they can cross open seas and rivers. We build dormitories to give them safe shelters during school days. And we build classrooms and entire schools to facilitate learning for more children.

To help parents and communities, we provide yellow boats that they can use for their livelihood, and we conduct eco-tourism programs so they can generate income for the sustenance of their children’s education.

The Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation is responsive to the needs of the communities. A program that works for one might not work on other communities. That is why we progressively develop programs that are well-suited on every community that we want to help. If needed, we will develop a program specifically for a certain project.

Our Hope Paddlers are our true heroes. They are more than just volunteers. These are the people who put all the hard work, day and night, to make our projects successful. Because of Hope Paddlers continuously watching over the communities, the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation is very quick to act when needed.

Somehow, we are just starting out. If we continue to help one another reach more children and communities, we can leave a greater impact.

Our yellow boats of hope will keep on sailing until no kid is left behind.

Some of our main programs are:

  1. Yellow School Boat – providing yellow school boats to children living in far-flung areas so they can cross bodies of water to reach school fast, safe, and dry.
  2. Yellow School of Hope – bringing education closer to communities by building classrooms and entire schools in areas where there are no schools.
  3. Yellow Dorm of Hope – building dormitories to serve as safe shelters during school days to children who live far from school.
  4. Yellow Boat ALS Bangkarunungan – educating people in geographically challenging areas where it is physically impossible for children to go to school with the help of our Alternative Learning System (ALS) teachers.
  5. Adopt-a-Fisherman – providing yellow boats to fishermen so they can establish a livelihood that will sustain their kids’ education.
  6. Yellow Boat Adventures – conducting ecotourism programs so families and entire communities can generate sustainable income to support their children’s education.
  7. Week Without Walls – inviting and welcoming corporate and private groups, non-government organizations, and schools and universities into our adopted communities to execute a Yellow Boat of Hope project.
  8. Yellow Bridge of Hope – making education more accessible to children by building bridges so they can safely walk on their way to school.

We believe that children are our future. That is why we made it our mission to give all children access to quality education so they can establish their self-identity and become great stewards of our nation. But we know that it takes more than just sending kids to school to make education possible. It entails solving the problems preventing kids from going to school – even if it takes having to rehabilitate an entire community.

Since 2011, the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation has adopted 143 public schools and over 127 communities, built 5,241 boats, 13 school buildings, 5 dormitories, and 2 bridges, among many other programs.
